A collection of quotes by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

To celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s enduring and powerful message of peace and acceptance, here are some of his wise words.
_________________
We must come to see that peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal. We must pursue peaceful ends through peaceful means.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

From every mountainside, let freedom ring. When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, “Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!

Faith is taking the first step even when you can’t see the whole staircase.

Never, never be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.

The choice is not between violence and nonviolence but between nonviolence and nonexistence.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

A Funeral is NOT a bad way to start 2012

My Grandmom took a turn for the worse on new year's day, and she passed away late night on Jan 2nd. Last week was really tough with visitation Thursday, funeral Friday, and then graveside service out of town on Saturday. Got some much needed extra sleep most of the day on Sunday. Yesterday I played catch up on social networking, and finished off the day working on our tax returns. Needless to say, its been one non-stop ride since Dec 15th with preparing for Christmas, celebrating with all sides of the family, my daughter's visit from college, meeting her 1st serious boyfriend and his 7 day stay with us, New Years, etc etc. I KNOW 2012 will be the best year ever with the completion and publication of my first book!! So the rough start is no downer to me. Grandmom lived a full life--teacher for 30+ years to 5th and 6th grade students, wife and mother, survived breast cancer and a mastectomy, buried her husband (Granddad) nearly 20 yrs ago, survived deep brain surgery for Parkinson's Disease, and buried her eldest son only last year. She was a gracious, poised, classy woman whose name was Golden Rose.
You would not believe how many roses were all over the church as we celebrated her life together at the funeral and graveside service. So many of her students came and so our family was reassured that her positive contributions will be felt for many generations to come. That catches you all up on my life!

We have 2 new additions to the Pain Sufferers Speak Global Community!
